Tri-Town Orioles Inter-league Champions

The 2015 Tri-Town league and inter-league playoffs were played this week at Community field and Janser field in Terryville.  Our four (4) Tri-Town majors teams played for the Tri-Town championship and produced a league champion to face the winner of the Watertown, Terryville and Thomaston teams.

This Saturday at Community Field the stage was set for the #1 seed  and undefeated Terryville Red Sox vs the #3 seed Tri-Town Orioles. The teams had met twice in regular season play with the Red Sox winning both contests. The Orioles pushed across a few runs early and the Red Sox roared back opening up a comfortable lead. The Orioles came up in the top of the sixth inning down 11-2 and facing the end of their season and a second place inter-league finish. The team led by Tyler Calhoun, Aidan Donohue, Timmy Donovan and Charlie Coffey were as one Orioles fan put it "not dead yet".

What transpired in the sixth inning was inspiring, amazing and almost unbelievable. The Orioles rallied to score 9 runs, high lighted by Aidan Donohue's grand slam, against the undefeated Sox. The game was tied the team had a second life and Tri-Town fans were raucous and energized. The fans were celebrating the courage and determination of the hometown team. The wave was circling Ripley field and the game played on.

Tyler Calhoun pitched his career best when it mattered the most holding the Sox scoreless thru the 8th inning. Timmy Donovan sent a three run homer of the right field fence (his second home run in the day) putting the O's in position to take the championship. The Sox pushed one run across in the bottom of the ninth. Then with two men on base a hard ground ball was fielded at second base by Cameron Sivilla and thrown over to first base where Nathan Sideris sealed the final out of what was a truly incredible team effort by the Orioles.

The Orioles would like to thank the Red Sox coaches and players for the sportsmanship they displayed during this game.
